Berkeley Dog-Closed

Berkeley Dog
215 W Birch St
Ste 2
Brea
714-257-0988

Berkeley Dog, is related to Top Dog of Berkeley. Top Dog is a well known hot dog and sausage restaurant, in the bastion of protesters and communists in America; Berkeley, CA. Home to Cal-Berkeley. Since I am a Stanford fan, I have no reason to go slumming and go to Berkeley, so I have never been to Top Dog- thusI don't know what all the hype is about. But I figured I would try Berkeley Dog since they opened a location Brea. Interesting that Cal's main rival, Stanford, calls people from Berkeley, wienies, since they are the biggest douchebags, you ever want to meet. I'm surprised people in Berkeley didn't protest the opening of Berkeley Dog, since they have no life.

All gourmet sausages are $3.85. But they have the best combo, two sausages and a soda for $7.99. A great deal. All sausages are grilled!! Which always impresses me. They come plain, but there is a full assortment of condiments, from deli mustard to raw onions, to sauerkraut.

Combo #2, $7.99, with two sausages, frankfurter and kielbasa, and a drink. The frankfurter is a long skinny, all beef hot dog, with a natural casing. This is how those nasty, terrible Dodger Dogs should taste. This has a great snap and full of flavor. A good spice combination. This is well worth the regular price, $3.85 and a steal with the combo.

The bun is really a piece of bread with sesame seeds on top. Well toasted, soft, and chewy. This will hold up to any topping you put. I put a touch of sauerkraut on the frankfurter. The sauerkraut was in a heated container, was fresh, had a nice tangy flavor and well made.

The kielbasa is 2/3 pork and 1/3 beef, with the same, toasted sesame bun. A nice snap, that just bursts with flavor. It is indeed hearty. I would say it was a good sized piece of kielbasa.

Service was good. Nice and friendly people.

Finally!! I found something good about Berkeley. I may have to go visit Berkeley and try Top Dog. But in the mean time, Berkeley Dog is one of my favorite hot dog places in Orange County.

Wurstküche

Wurstküche
800 E 3rd St
Los Angeles
213-687-4444

I wanted to celebrate the birthday of the hottie that I went to Beachwood BBQ with, so we decided on Wurstküche, a German sausage house.

Wurstküche is just east of Little Tokyo and Sushi Go 55. Housed in an old brick building, you enter Wurstküche and order your food. You take your drinks then walk down a long hall way to the common dining hall and they will bring you your food. There are wood tables and benches. Nothing fancy, though the people are of the pretentious asshole Westside types.

I ordered two sausages. The sausages are grilled and condiments like mustard etc are on the tables. You get two toppings free, sauerkraut, sweet or hot peppers and carmelized onions. I only got the sauerkraut and it was warm, not good, and not that tangy. I will pass on the sauerkraut next time. All sausages come on a fresh baked roll, which was firm and stood up to all the toppings.

Bratwurst, $5.75, made with pork, coriander and nutmeg, with sauerkraut. The bratwurst was Ok, I've had better. This didn't have much flavor and nothing really stood out.

Louisiana hot link, $6.50. beef and pork, onions and hot spices. I asked for the hot link with sauerkraut and hot peppers on the side. I really did like this hot link. It starts off mild but then the spicy flavors hit you and it was wonderful. The link had a nice snap and made of good quality items.

Large Beligian fries with white truffle oil glaze, $5.50 + $1.50 for the truffle oil. These fries were great. Crispy on the outside and soft and hot on the inside. The fries are made from fresh potatoes and stored in the frig overnight, then fried for three minutes, taken out and then fried again to order. You gotta try these fries. They give you two dipping sauces and we got the bbq sauce, which was ok and the tzatziki, a Greek yogurt sauce which was great. This had the consistency of sour cream but wasn't sour but had a nice mild flavor.

Service is a bit slow and just off. The hottie and I ordered two beers and instead of pouring two glasses, she started pouring the beer into a huge mug, she must have throught we ordered a double. The beer was ok but warm as hell, they need to chill those damn kegs.

I was impressed with sausages at Wurstküche and though they are a bit pricey, they do use good quality meats. Compared to Jeff's Gourmet Sausage, Jeff's is better, they use better meats and are much cheaper but Wurstküche is the solid second choice for sausage in LA.

Jeff's Gourmet Sausage Factory

Jeff's Gourmet Sausage Factory
8930 W. Pico
LA
310-858-8590

The search for the best hot dog is over. The best hot dog in LA is at Jeff's Gourmet Sausage Factory. The regular all beef hot dog is so flavorful with the perfect blend of spices nothing in LA comes close. The hot dog doesn't have any natural casing but that doesn't take anything away from the taste. The hot dog is the third picture down and costs $2.50. I had deli mustard and raw onions on there and it was great. The bun isn't toasted or anything but the hot dog is so good it doesn't matter. They offer a jumbo dog for $4.50 which I will try again very soon.

I also ordered a polish sausage sandwich with a plain bun instead of an onion roll, that is stated on the menu, for $4.50. The polish sausage is not spicy but has a very good flavor. The menu says a garlicy flavor but I didn't taste any garlic. I didn't care for the sauerkraut they put on there. But otherwise a good polish sandwich. But I'm more impressed with the hot dog.

When ordering the two guys taking your orders are very nice and helpful. But for whatever reason my hot dog and polish sausage took forever. I sat down at a table and waited for about five minutes. I went up after seeing somebody behind me get his burger. The other guy, who didn't take my order, said it would be another five minutes.

Now the hot dog was very good and hot. So I'm not really complaining. But it did seem a little too long to wait for a hot dog and sausage. The cooks forgot to put the mustard and onions on my hot dog but quickly got the order correct.

If that fat idiot from the Hot Dog Spot reviewed this place he would make stupid, racist comments about the large amount of Jewish people eating there. But I don't care who is eating where I'm eating. Unless it's a good looking women and I saw four very beautiful women at Jeff's Gourmet when I was there.

I would certainly go back for the hot dog and may try a burger or a pastrami or corned beef sandiwch. A nice discovery!!!
