Maggie's Pub

Maggie's Pub
11900 Telegraph Rd
Santa Fe Springs
562-944-5399

So, back to reviewing restaurants in new cities. I read about a British pub in Santa Fe Springs and figure I should head down there. As readers of The New Diner know, I judge fish and chips by how they compare to England Fish and Chips in Long Beach. You can't beat the prices and quality of their cod fish and chips.

I ordered the fish and chips, $9.99, which are called Sherlock Holmes on the menu. I got this to go but ate the fish and chips in my car. The fish is cod, which I think is the best fish to use, for fish and chips. I like the dense, chewy texture of cod.

What I did not like about the fish and chips at Maggie's, was the sogginess. It was clear the fish was under heat lamps for a long time. That meant the batter, got real soggy. The fish itself was cooked perfectly. But the batter just ruined it for me. This could have been a good fish and chips, but they need to cook them to order, not having them sit under heat lamps.

The fries were run of the mill, fries. But I could care less about the fries, when I'm ordering fish and chips.

Service by the hostess and a server, who told me about the pub, was great. When I walked in, I was greeted with a smile and a friendly hello. The hostess directed me to the bar, so I can place my to go order. The service from the bartender was bad. He wasn't helpful, had attitude and gave the impression he had other things to do. That's fine, I have other ways to spend my money, that would have gone to his tip. While waiting for my order, I looked around and a server, said Hi and asked if this was my first time at Maggie's. He then showed me the banquet room and answered a few questions. Very nice and helpful.

I wanted to like Maggie's but I wasn't impressed. The fish and chips were so soggy, I was eating the fish and no batter. I didn't order a piece of cod, I ordered fish and chips. I may give Maggie's another try but I'm not in that area too often.

Northridge Fish & Chips

Northridge Fish & Chips
10336 Reseda Blvd
Northridge
818-360-3474

So, I've broken my streak of reviewing restaurants in new cities, by going Northridge. That reminds me, the Valley is part of LA. There is no city named Northridge or Sherman Oaks or Van Nuys; they are all govern by the city of Los Angeles, the correct name for them are communities. So that brings up the question, should I do reviews of in different communities of the Valley? I'm not going to make a big effort, since the Valley is pretty far from me, but if I'm in the area, I may make an effort to go to different communities in the Valley. I think I'm missing Granada Hills, Porter Ranch, Valley Village, North Hills, and West Hills. But those last three communities are snobs, who broke away from Van Nuys and Woodland Hills.

I heard about Northridge Fish and Chips and figured I would give them a try. What is funny, is that I have past this location all the time but never stopped in. So I figured it was time.

I know for some people, fish and chips, are a combo. But I don't eat fries that much and I could care less about them. Give me the fish. If the fish is great and the fries are bad, will that stop me from going to a fish and chips restaurant? Of course not.

Two piece fish only, $1.90 each. The fish is pollock and are cooked to order. They have a nice, light, crunchy batter. Pollock isn't as good as cod but this pollock was good, light flakey, and good flavor. A good sized portion and well worth the price.

Service is good. The owner was the only person working and he was nice. He greeted me when I walked in, always a good start. He said he would be there in a minute, he was frying up some fish. The fish, are cooked to order, so expect a wait. But they are worth it.

Northridge Fish and Chips is a no frills restaurant. The fish is served on paper plates. There is nothing fancy about it. But the fish and chips and service was so much better the fish and chips at Henry's Hat, and for a hell of a lot, less money!!!

I would go back to Northridge Fish and Chips anytime. Good quality fish, good prices and good service.

El Taco Rico

El Taco Rico
12017 Firestone Blvd
Norwalk
562-863-0974

I must have passed the city of Norwalk, hundreds of times but I never eaten at any restaurant in Norwalk. So I did some searching and found El Taco Rico. I wanted some good tacos and they had some good reviews.

I got the carnitas taco and carne asada taco, $1.37 each.

The carnitas taco, which is on the top of the picture, was very good. I like the flavor and the seasoning of the carnitas. The carnitas was all meat, very little fat or gristle. The red sauce and onions were fresh and tortilla were toasted served hot.

The carne asada taco was also very good. Again very little fat or gristle. Full of flavor. They put a lot of meat on the tacos and is well worth the $1.37 price.

Service was very good. The guy taking the order was nice and helpful. He answered all my questions. I did think it took a bit long for my order to come out, but it wasn't too long and something I can overlook.

I would go back to El Taco Rico, if I was in the area. I really wanted to try their barbacoa, but they were out of it. Maybe next time.

Ambrose Pizzeria

Ambrose Pizzeria
12739 Valley View Ave
La Mirada
562-802-7545

That Girl Can Eat, used to be one of my favorite bloggers. But she went to the dark side, Yelp, and has never come back!! But I saw her review of Ambrose Pizza and since it fit into my new MO, of trying restaurants in new cites. So I can check La Mirada off my list.

I didn't really want an entire pizza, so I got a large pepperoni slice, $5.39. When the slice arrived, I was amazed at how big the slice was. The slice was about half a medium pizza. I'll admit, I used to be all about the portion size, when it came to food. The bigger the better.

But now, as my tastes has changed, I want good quality food, not just big portions. Ambrose Pizza is only about big portions. The crust was overwhelming thick and the bottom was like a cracker, way to cripsy. I want a soft chewy crust, not a thick crunchy crust.

The sauce had a lot of oregano, which I don't like. I don't like that tangy, bitter taste of too much oregano. I did like the large amount of cheese on the slice, though toward the ends, there weren't that much. There was a good amount of pepperoni and it was just standard pepperoni, nothing special.

Service was bad and came with a MAJOR attitude. The girl was a snotty bitch with major attitude. She wasn't friendly or helpful at all. Asking her a question about lunch specials, and a major attitude came about.

The guy who delivered the pizza to my table, was nice but the girl who took my order needs a major attitude adjustment.

I would not go back to Ambrose Pizza again. Very average pizza and bad service is a bad combination.

Dog House-Closed

Dog House
14510 Towne Center Dr
Unit F1
Baldwin Park
626-939-8999

Mark, the city of Baldwin Park, off my list of cities that I have not reviewed to restaurant. The New Diner is trying to do restaurant reviews in cities that I have not been to. Dog House maybe the first ever restaurant, including fast food, in Baldwin Park that I have ever been to. I'm always up for a good hot dog place, especially one that uses Vienna beef hot dogs.

Vienna beef, 12in, jumbo dog, with mustard and onions, $3.95. I like to keep things simple, when I have a hot dog. Who cares about the toppings, if the hot dog isn't good. Vienna beef hot dogs are among the best hot dogs you can buy. They use good quality beef in their hot dogs.

Dog House has the hot dogs in a steamer and when you place your order, they will toast the bun on the grill, and then take out a hot dog from the steamer and grill it for about a minute or so. I liked the hot dog, but it was a bit overdone because they have been sitting in the steamer too long. The outside was a bit tough and chewy. There wasn't a natural casing.

What I didn't like is the bun. The bun broke in half, which meant the onions dropped on the tray. I saw them toast the bun and they flatten the bun, causing it to break in half. I don't want a two piece bun for my hot dog, that would make it a sandwich!!

Something interesting that I found while searching for Dog House; as you can see the hot dog is bigger than the bun. I found somebody, on Yelp, actually complaining about the hot dog being bigger than the bun!!! What an idiot!!

The onions and mustard were fine.

Service is good. The guy who took my order, was nice and helpful. But I find their pricing interesting. A Jumbo chili cheese dog is $4.25, as is the onion ring dog-bbq sauce and onion rings on top. But a regular 12in jumbo dog is $3.95?

Tacos La Bufadora

Tacos La Bufadora
16020 Arrow Hwy
Irwindale
626-962-0910

Going with my theme of trying restaurants in new cities, I went to Irwindale. The infamous Irwindale, that gave Jerk, Al Davis, $10 million, to listen to their proposal about building the LA Raiders a football stadium in their city. The jerk took the $10 million and never looked back.

I did a search and Tacos La Bufadora, sounded good, especially when I heard about ther 99 cent fish taco, Wednesday. While doing the search, I was reminded of Picasso's Cafe, also in Irwindale, and I may pay a visit, soon.

So I get two fish tacos, regular price is $1.49 but on Wednesday and Sunday they are 99 cents. The fish tacos I got came quickly, but must have been fried quickly, because there were still crunchy and hot. The pieces of fish were big but had so much batter and not enough fish. I bet the ratio was 60/40, batter to fish. Not a good rato, even at 99 cents. I'm pretty sure the fish, what little there was, was pollock.

The corn tortillas were so hot, just off the grill. The fresh cabbage, cilantro, and white sauce were fine. I like the coolness of the sauce with the hot fish.

Service was good. But I said I would eat the fish tacos, there but they started packing up the tacos, to go. I can't believe how many restaurants screw that up. It is a waste of money and materials for that restaurant. I understand mistakes happen but when mistakes cost the restaurant more money, then it becomes an issue, because in the end the customers will pay for it.

The fish tacos were ok but not worth the drive to Irwindale. I wouldn't go back, even if I'm in the area.

Grandma's Broasted Chicken

Grandma's Broasted Chicken
9886 Alondra Blvd
Bellflower
562-920-1797

I thought I've been to most of the broasted chicken places in the LA area. But somebody sent a nice email, telling me about Grandma's Broasted Chicken. I noticed that Grandma's Broasted Chicken wasn't far from Treasure Pot. So I figured I would stop by and get some broasted chicken. In addition to chicken, Grandma's also has fish and shrimp.

I got two breast pieces, $1.89 and 5 jumbo shrimp, $5.99. The broasted chicken was cooked to order. It was pretty good. A crispy outside and very juicy inside. It wasn't the best broasted chicken but solid.

The jumbo shrimp were covered with a cornmeal batter, which made them crunchy. But the shrimp were a bit overcooked, tough and chewy. I didn't like the shrimp and didn't think it was worth the $5.99 price tag.

Service is OK. But the owner is a bit of a wise guy, making jokes he thinks is funny. I was ordering and after getting the shrimp and chicken, he said that's enough for you, don't order anymore. Ok fine, if you don't want me to spend more money at your restaurant, why the hell should I.

Broaster Kitchen is still my favorite broasted chicken restaurant. But I wouldn't mind coming back to Grandma's Broasted Chicken. Oh, this Grandma's is different that Grandma's Chicken House.

I has been brought to my attention, that in my reviews of Grandma's Chicken House and Broaster Kitchen, I said Grandma's Chicken House was better. But, in subsequent visits to Broaster Kitchen, I have found the chicken to be so much better than my first visit. Maybe they used better chicken or the first time I went, the cookers weren't working that well. But whatever the reason, Broaster Kitchen is my favorite. But maybe I should go back to Grandma's Chicken House, again.

Treasure Pot

Treasure Pot Restaurant
8540 Alondra Blvd Ste B6
Paramount
562-531-7337

I noticed that I have reviewed restaurants in many different cities, but there are many cities that I have missed. So I wanted to review restaurants, in cities that I have not been to, before. I have not reviewed any restaurant in the city of Parmount, so I searched for a restaurant in Paramount to review. I know there are a lot of good Mexican restaurants in Paramount, but decided I wanted something different; so I looked around and found Treasure Pot, a Thai restaurant.

I got the chicken satay, listed at $6.96 but charged $7.95, as an appetizer. I was impressed with the seasoning and flavor of the chicken. But it was a bit too rubbery and chewy. This could have been very good but it was average to below average.

I had a bad experience with pad Thai at Thai Basil, but I decided to give it another try. So I got the shrimp pad Thai, $7.95. This had much better than Thai Basil, not as tangy. Really good flavor, a little sweet but not too sweet. The noodles were cooked perfectly. The bean sprouts were fresh. But the shrimp, you get six of them, are small, overcooked-tough and chewy, and just not worth it. Maybe I should have ordered the chicken or pork. But the shrimp just didn't do it for me. I did like the noodles part and I think I will give pad Thai another try, from another Thai restaurant.

Service was below average. They are nice but while there was only one other table, with three people, in the restaurant, they only time they came to my table was to take the order, drop off the food, and deliver the check. I was lucky towards the end, a group of four came in and were seated at the table next to me, so I could ask for more water. I was never asked how the food was.

Then I was overcharged by a $1, for the chicken satay. I hate that.

I would not go back to Treasure Pot again. The food was borderline average and the service was below average. Worst they overcharged me on the food.

Serice was below average.

Just Hot Dogs-Chicago Style

Just Hot Dogs-Chicago Style
15223 Beach Blvd
Westminster
714-379-5200

While driving down Beach Blvd, today I saw, Just Hot Dogs-Chicago Style. I never knew or heard about this hot dog stand but I decided to give them a try.

Chicago dog, with fries, mustard, onions, tomatoes, relish and sport peppers, $2.99. For any Chicago dog to be a Chicago dog, it must be made with Vienna beef. This was a Vienna beef hot dog. So this is a good start. Chicago dogs are suppose to be served on a poppy seed bun. This was served on a poppy seed bun, though they could have put more poppy seeds on the bun. But it was there, so another good sign.

But when I got the hot dog, I was a bit surprised to see fries on top. I have never seen fries on top of a Chicago dog. I kept the fries to take a picture, then took them off to take pictures of the toppings and hot dog. I tried the fries and they were cold and soggy and pretty bad. They must have been sitting under a heat lamp forever. The fries can be a good item, if they were served right out of the fryer. But I wouldn't put fries on top of any Chicago dog.

The toppings were fresh and tasty. The Vienna beef didn't have that snap that I expect. It was nicely seasoned and flavored. But I thought they could use a bigger hot dog.

Service is good.

I wouldn't make a special trip to Just Hot Dogs, but if I was in the area, I wouldn't have any issues going back. They do have Italian beef sandwiches, for those of you who like that Chicago sandwich, which I never understood the appeal. But next time I get a hot dog, I will ask for no fries.

Ondal Restaurant

Ondal Restaurant
9240 Garden Grove Blvd
Garden Grove
714-636-7289

Ondal is known for their spicy crab soup. There are two location in LA, one in Koreatown and the other in the Palms area. I checked and this Ondal, in Garden Grove is part of that Ondal chain.

I was looking forward to try the spicy crab soup and it did not live up to my expectations.

Medium spicy crab stew, $55, blue crap, bean sprouts, and spicy broth. The medium comes with three blue crabs. The shells are only used as an eye catcher. They are quickly taken off and the server, finds the body of the crabs and cuts it up for you.

I took a crab and it was so mushy and overcooked. The crab was no fresh and tasted bad. The spicy broth was a bit too spicy for me but pretty good overall. But, I couldn't get over the fact the crab was so mushy.

I only had one piece of crab, so I was still hungry and ordered the spicy BBQ pork, $7.99. This was better than the crab, but not much better. They use such a poor quality pork-such much gristle and fat. The few good piece were very flavorful, a bit spicy, and tender. But there wasn't many good pieces.

Service was good. The lady, who I believe is the owner, was very nice and helpful.

Ondal and the spicy crab soup did not live up to expectations. I thought it was a waste of money, I much prefer to go to Boiling Crab.

Family Fish Market

Family Fish Market
18503 Avalon Blvd
Carson
310-515-5352

Right behind R & R Soul Food, is Family Fish Market. This is the type of place that sells fresh fish and will also fry the fish for you. There was a steady stream of customers when I was there.

I thought the jumbo shrimp with fries and hush puppies, $7, sounded good, so I got an order. I saw the man take and weigh five fresh jumbo shrimp from the display case, which was refrigerated. Next the shrimp were peeled and deveined, then dipped in a cornmeal batter.

Family Fish Market, does not have any tables, so I went across the street to Home Depot Center and found a bench and ate. When I opened up my tray, I thought they forgot the shrimp, there was a massive amount of fries and a few hush puppies.

But I searched around and found the five shrimp, which were a very good size. I did like the crunchy batter, but the shrimp was overcooked-very tough and chewy. It seemed as though the shrimp had spent about 2-3 extra minutes in the fryer. This may have been good but it missed the mark.

But what got me was the small sized containers of tartar sauce and hot sauce. They gave me one of each and expect that to last for five jumbo shrimp? Luckily, since I saw the small sized containers, I knew I had to ask for more.

The fries were well cooked, soft on the inside and a bit crisp on the outside.

The hush puppies were good, so crisp on the outside and so flavorful on the inside.

If they would have cooked the shrimp as well as they did the fries and hush puppies, this would have been a great meal and deal. $7 is a steal.

Service is pretty good.

I would go back to Family Fish Market but I would stay away from the shrimp and of course, ask for more tartar and hot sauce.

Casa Sanchez

Casa Sanchez
2264 S Mountain Ave
Ontario
909-983-2826

I must have passed Casa Sanchez, 100's of times, I've even reviewed two restaurants, Birrieria Moreno's and JJ's Fish and BBQ that about a mile north.

I was craving Mexican food and I finally decided to give them a try.

I got the wet chicken burrito, $7.25, chicken, beans, enchilada sauce. This was pretty good up to a point. The chicken was nice and tender and the beans well cooked. But it was a bit bland and Mexican food is not bland. The chicken tasted as though it was boiled and almost no seasoning. The red sauce enchilada sauce was pretty good, nice spicy good flavor. But they sauce shouldn't cover up the lack of seasoning for the inside of the burrito. I did like the large amount of sour cream they put on the side. The sour cream added a cooling affect to the enchilada sauce.

But as I came to the last quarter of the burrito, there were some tough stringy in my mouth. You can see them in the above picture. At first I thought it maybe the corn husks used to make tamales. But I told the server and she said they were dried up pieces of chicken. Almost like chicken jerky.

Not good and certainly something that made an average burrito, below average.

Service was pretty good. The server was nice and friendly and helpful.

I would not go back to Casa Sanchez again, even if the chicken jerky was in my burrito. There are a ton of other Mexican restaurants, where I can get a much better burrito.

Mattern Sausage & Meats

Mattern Sausage & Meats
4327 E Chapman Ave
Orange
714-639-3550

I figured that pretentious jerk Orange County, had a good sized German population. There are two German restaurants in a two mile radius from The Honda Center. But I have never gone to either restaurant. I heard about Mattern Sausage and Meats, and though Mattern is more known for their sausage and deli meats, they do serve sandwiches, so I decided to give them a try. .

Mattern is in a small building with limited parking. I was surprised that many customers spoke German. But, I bet the INS would never check to see if these krauts were in the country, illegally. But they would bust the local car wash, to see if the Mexicans working there, were in the country illegally.

Poor boy, $5.90, German cold cuts with harvarti cheese on rye bread. The sandwiches come with mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes and cheese. This sandwich had meats I've never seen. German baloney and something that looked like a German mortadella, There was a good amount of meat on the sandwich, the meats were fresh and from what I could tell made from quality meats.

The rye bread was a bit tough and chewy and didn't stand out.

Service is very slow. For a first timers, it can be overwhelming. You take a number and they call out the number. But expect a long wait, they are so damn slow. I got there, got number 8, they were working with number 5 when I got there and it took about 20 minutes before I was helped, and #6 had left.

Then the lady who helped me wasn't helpful at all. She didn't ask what kind of cheese I wanted, she was short with her answers, and just took too damn long to make my sandwich.

I wasn't overwhelmed with the sandwiches at Mattern. It is pretty good but nothing great for sandwiches. I may go there for their sausages, which is interesting because some are freshly made but others are in the freezer. WTF?

Berkeley Dog-Closed

Berkeley Dog
215 W Birch St
Ste 2
Brea
714-257-0988

Berkeley Dog, is related to Top Dog of Berkeley. Top Dog is a well known hot dog and sausage restaurant, in the bastion of protesters and communists in America; Berkeley, CA. Home to Cal-Berkeley. Since I am a Stanford fan, I have no reason to go slumming and go to Berkeley, so I have never been to Top Dog- thusI don't know what all the hype is about. But I figured I would try Berkeley Dog since they opened a location Brea. Interesting that Cal's main rival, Stanford, calls people from Berkeley, wienies, since they are the biggest douchebags, you ever want to meet. I'm surprised people in Berkeley didn't protest the opening of Berkeley Dog, since they have no life.

All gourmet sausages are $3.85. But they have the best combo, two sausages and a soda for $7.99. A great deal. All sausages are grilled!! Which always impresses me. They come plain, but there is a full assortment of condiments, from deli mustard to raw onions, to sauerkraut.

Combo #2, $7.99, with two sausages, frankfurter and kielbasa, and a drink. The frankfurter is a long skinny, all beef hot dog, with a natural casing. This is how those nasty, terrible Dodger Dogs should taste. This has a great snap and full of flavor. A good spice combination. This is well worth the regular price, $3.85 and a steal with the combo.

The bun is really a piece of bread with sesame seeds on top. Well toasted, soft, and chewy. This will hold up to any topping you put. I put a touch of sauerkraut on the frankfurter. The sauerkraut was in a heated container, was fresh, had a nice tangy flavor and well made.

The kielbasa is 2/3 pork and 1/3 beef, with the same, toasted sesame bun. A nice snap, that just bursts with flavor. It is indeed hearty. I would say it was a good sized piece of kielbasa.

Service was good. Nice and friendly people.

Finally!! I found something good about Berkeley. I may have to go visit Berkeley and try Top Dog. But in the mean time, Berkeley Dog is one of my favorite hot dog places in Orange County.

Ramen California-Closed

Ramen California 24231 Crenshaw Blvd Ste C Torrance 310-530-2749 If you're expecting real ramen at Ramen California, you're going to be disappointed. This is a ramen fusion restaurant. They use organic, whenever they can. I'm not much of a ramen fan, matter of fact, this is the first review of a ramen restaurant on The New Diner. Shrimp wonton, $8.50, regular size, with chicken broth and green onions. Regular size is 20oz, which was more than enough. This was in interesting combination. First the broth; very bland, with not much flavor, needed more time or less water. The shrimp wonton, had baby shrimp and pork inside. I have never seen shrimp wontons filled with pork. Weird. They were ok but when I pay for shrimp, I want bigger shrimp, not shrimp, with pork used as a filler. The wonton wrappers were a bit thick, chewy, and tough. Yes, they need to hold up in the broth but I thought they were a bit too thick. Service was friendly but a bit lacking. The young lady was nice and friendly. But a table that was seated about ten minutes after us, had their order taken before we did. Our drinks were not refilled. Nobody came by and asked how everything was. I would not go back to Ramen California again. The prices are good, the portions are good. But the broth is too bland and there wasn't enough shrimp.

BonChon-Closed

BonChon
3407 W 6th St
Los Angeles
213-487-7878

After going to Kyochon, we stopped at BonChon to find which Korean Fried Chicken is better.

We split two large orders of soy garlic and the hot wings, $16.99 each, which was about 10 wings in each order.

BonChon does a much better job frying their chicken. So light and crispy and moist. The chicken was huge, among the biggest pieces of chicken I've had.

The soy garlic wasn't as flavorful as Kyochon, but still pretty good.

But the hot, was so much better. The hot had enough heat but wasn't so hot, it burned your mouth.

Service was pretty good, much better than Kyochon.

Overall, I liked BonChon better. I liked the fact that the chicken was more crispy and moist. If you could combine the soy garlic at Kyochon and with the chicken at BonChon, you would have an almost perfect chicken.

Kyochon Chicken

Kyochon Chicken
3833 W 6th St
Los Angeles
213-739-9292

Kyochon and Bonchon, are two of the more well known Korean Fried Chicken restaurants. I noticed that Koychon and Bonchon are with a mile of each other on 6th St. So I went to Kyochon frist and then Boncho to see which place is better!!

Six people split the large order of 10 wings, $16.99, half soy garlic and half spicy. They screwed up and gave us all soy garlic, then later, realizing their mistake gave us the spicy.

Korean fried chicken, actually, most Asian fried chicken is a two step process. The first step is to render out the fat, to make a nice crispy skin. Then cooked again to fully cook the inside!! So these wings take 20-25 minutes to cook, so prepare to wait.

Kyochon did a good job of frying the chicken. Nice cripsy skin, moist inside. The soy garlic had so much flavor. I really liked this chicken.

The hot was HOT. If you do not like hot, do not get this. It is among the hottest chicken I've ever had.

Service is so slow and bad. It took forever to get water, one person in our group didn't get his water until we were almost done with our meal and 3-5 reminders. Drinks were not refilled, they took forever to take our orders. They really need to work on customer service.

The only good thing to say about them is that they self corrected their mistake and brought us an order of hot and spicy. But there is no excuse for slow service, you can measure the amount of time they took with an hourglass.

I would only go back to Kyochon, if I placed my order in advance. I won't put up with their bad table service.

Mr Sippee-Closed

Mr Sippee
1045 Blaine St
Los Angeles
213-748-2121

As readers of The New Diner know, I love broasted chicken. When I heard about a gas station that serves up broasted chicken, I figured I would check them out. If they are good, I have another option for food before a game at Staples Center.

Mr. Sippee, is the name of the store, inside the 76 gas station. They have everything from BBQ ribs, fried chicken, and sandwiches. They also had a B rating from the health department, the day I went.

I ordered two breast pieces, $4.81. Any broasted chicken restaurant, that is worth a damn, doesn't use heat lamps. They freshly cook their chicken and served hot. Well, I knew something was wrong when I saw the heat lamps. I was under the impression Mr. Sippee was broasted chicken, it is NOT broasted but fried. The way they fry their chicken is close the way Pollo Campero-LA, fries their chicken.

They only had one breast piece under the heat lamps, so they had fry one up, so I waited about 15 minutes. When the chicken was done, I got two pieces of chicken, one freshly fried, the other sitting under a heat lamp for who knows how long.

I tried the freshly fried chicken first, it was very hot, but the skin wasn't anywhere close to what broasted chicken is suppose to be. It was clearly fried. The inside was fairly moist and tender.

The chicken that had been sitting under heat lamps was Ok. Decent flavor, a decent crispy skin and moist inside. But I couldn't get over this was just a less tasty version of Pollo Campero.

Service was terrible. The guy working was nice but I noticed they served BBQ ribs, which are ribs steamed or cooked in an oven and then drowned in BBQ sauce. But I figured, why not, so I ordered just one rib. The ribs are priced at $2.99 on the menu. The receipt that prints up for the food, had the price at $2.99. But when the guy rang up the it was $3.29 plus tax. I questioned him on that. I told him the menu price was $2.99, the receipt price was $2.99 but it rang up at $3.61, which is $3.29 plus tax. I told him, honor the price or I won't take it.

I will never go back to Mr. Sippee again. If I wanted fried chicken that tasted like Pollo Campero, I would go there. I don't need the bad service, where they don't honor their prices.
