JR's BBQ

JR’s BBQ
3055 So. La Cienega Blvd.
Culver City, CA 90232

What do you do when the food at a restaurant is average but the people are so nice and friendly? That's my issue with JR's BBQ. The people are so nice but the BBQ spare ribs are average at best. I want to go back but the good just isn't worth it. JR's is Memphis style BBQ. Memphis means ribs but the ribs at JR's are below average.

Pictured is the half slab of pork spare ribs, $13. The ribs are nice and big. Always a good thing. But they lack a real smoke flavor. If there is any rub on the ribs they must have stayed on the BBQ. The ribs were chewy and also really lacked flavor.

Service is great. The people are so welcoming and friendly. I felt as though I was in the South, not LA. They got my order quickly. They take the time to talk to and get to know their customers.

I would not go back to JR's for the ribs. I could be talked into trying the brisket or pork shoulder. But I would not go back for the ribs

Mulberry Street Pizza

Mulberry Street Pizzeria
347 Canon Dr
Beverly Hills
310-247-8998

Talk about going from the good to the bad. After experiencing the greatness of Village Pizzeria, I had the misfortune of trying Mulberry Street Pizzeria for NY style pizza.

Not only are the slices about double the price they are just plain terrible.

The first picture is a plain slice, $3.00. I would have been better off eating the paper plate. Man this was terrible. The crust was just bad, like cardboard. The cheese was OK but the sauce had a very sour taste to it.

The second slice had chicken and tomato, $4.00. The tomato was fresh and tasty. That's the only good thing about it. The chicken, what little there was, was bland and flavorless. Adding bad toppings to a crappy slice of pizza just means a crappier slice of pizza.

Service is OK. We stood at the counter for about five minutes before anybody said anything to us. They weren't that busy at all. When we finally got service they were nice and friendly. But while I was eating the pizza a couple walked in and waited and waited for somebody to take their order. They finally gave up and left. I wish I would have left because this is one of the worst pizza places I've been to. Now I understand it's Beverly Hills and rent is high. But to charge those kind of prices for such bad pizza is robbery!!

I would not go back to Mulberry Street Pizzeria.

Front Runner- Santa Anita Park

Located in Santa Anita Race Track, Frontrunner Restaurant provides a great view of the mountains and the race. You have to pay $8.50 for admission to the races and Frontrunner Restaurant, an extra $3.50 is worth the view.
Prices are high at Frontrunner. The pizza pictured is $12 and not worth the price. It's filled with lots of cheese and tomatoes. The crust is thicker and very chewy. The cheese was pretty gooey.
The second picture is their chocolate dessert. It has chocolate covered strawberries, almond brittle, white chocolate with raspberry and an almond roca like treat. I enjoyed the dessert but at $12 it's not cheap and not worth it.
Service is good. But they do not tell you they charge you for lemonade. This is a real pet peeve of mine. Since most people assume free refills for lemonade, sodas and ice tea, the servers should tell you or the menu should say no free refills. At $3 per lemonade, it's a huge deal, even getting a second glass.
I would not go back to Frontrunner. The food isn't great and the prices are high. But I would go back to watch the races. What a great view!!!
